Privacy Policy

1. No Accounts Required

You do not need to create an account, log in, or provide an email address to use any MAKO product.

2. Data Storage & Ownership

All MAKO products are local-first applications. By default, your data stored exclusively on your device's internal storage. We do not have access to this data. This data is private and cannot be accessed by any other applications on the device.

Optional Cloud Security: To prevent data loss when switching devices, where applicable you may choose to enable your phone's own backup facility during the initial setup or in the app's settings. On Android, if enabled, your data is uploaded to your personal Google Drive account via the standard Android Backup Service. On iOS, there is no separate in-app backup toggle — your data is instead included automatically in Apple's iCloud Backup whenever it's enabled at the device level (Settings → [your name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup), the same way any other app's data on your iPhone is backed up. In both cases, the backup is encrypted and tied to your own personal account — Mako Meter has no server of its own and never has access to it.

3. Permissions

Permissions needed vary for each application. MAKO apps are designed to be non-intrusive and use only the permissions necessary to function.

MAKO DOX: BIOMETRIC LOCK, PHOTO EXTRACTION, ALARM MANAGER. Mako Dox saves all personal dossiers, notes, and private contact configurations exclusively to the device's private internal storage. The app uses biometric credentials (fingerprint, face, or PIN) solely through secure system-level hardware checks to unlock your local filing cabinet; your sensitive biometric data never leaves the device's secure enclave and is entirely inaccessible to the app. Mako Dox uses the native Android Photo Picker to let you frame and crop portrait headshots, which are down-sampled and baked directly into your private app directory to preserve dossier links independent of your gallery. The app parses incoming vCards and generates outbound text-only .vcf file strings entirely on-device; clipboard histories and contact files are never read or monitored in the background. The app schedules local reach-out interval catch-up targets utilizing the Android system Alarm Manager to trigger local notification alerts, running completely isolated from any external network daemons or servers.

MAKO METER (ANDROID & iOS): POST NOTIFICATIONS, HAPTIC FEEDBACK, BIOMETRIC AUTHENTICATION, HOME & LOCK SCREEN WIDGETS, INTERNET, BILLING. Mako Meter stores all transaction records, daily limits, and categorical allowances exclusively inside a secure, localized database container on your physical hardware — a local SQLite store on Android, a local on-device store on iOS. On iOS, this same on-device data is also shared with Mako Meter's own Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets through an Apple App Group container, a private, on-device mechanism that never leaves your hardware or becomes accessible to any other app. Optional biometric authentication (fingerprint or face unlock on Android, Face ID or Touch ID on iOS) uses only your device's native operating-system biometric APIs to gate access to the app; Mako Meter never receives, stores, or transmits any biometric data itself. On Android, if enabled, your data is uploaded to your personal Google Drive account via the standard Android Backup Service; on iOS, there is no separate in-app backup toggle, and your data is instead included automatically in Apple's iCloud Backup whenever it's enabled at the device level, the same way any other app's data on your iPhone is backed up. In both cases, the backup is encrypted and tied to your own personal account. Mako Meter has no server of its own and never has access to it. Network access and transactional billing capabilities are included strictly to process premium licensing choices via the native Google Play Billing framework (Android) or Apple's StoreKit framework (iOS), including the Restore Purchases feature Apple requires, which simply re-verifies a past purchase directly with Apple's own servers. All calculation logic, date shifting, and layout updates occur locally using the device's internal hardware processor clock, completely detached from external network monitoring, background data harvesting, or cloud-based analytics platforms.

MAKO SCRUBBER: STORAGE. Mako Scrubber was specifically designed not to need any permissions, aside from being able to write the cleaned photos to your device. These cleaned photos are deleted after 30 days to avoid using too much space, though your original photos remain. Mako Scrubber's source code is public and licensed under the GPLv3, available at https://github.com/themakoway/mako-scrubber.

MAKO SHOPPER: MICROPHONE, STORAGE, BARCODE SCANNING. Mako Shopper uses the microphone for optional voice entry, which uses your device's native Speech-to-Text function. Audio processing is handled by the Android system, and the app does not record or store or transmit any audio files. Mako Shopper stores your data locally. We use the Google Code Scanner API to provide the Mako Beam feature. This API allows for secure, on-device scanning without requiring Mako Shopper to access your device's camera. All scanning is processed by the Android system, and the app only receives the decoded text results. Please note that Google Play Services may collect technical diagnostics and usage telemetry (such as Device IDs) to ensure the scanner's performance and security. This data is handled in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy. Use of the Mako Beam feature constitutes acknowledgment of this system-level processing.

MAKO LIST: STORAGE, CLIPBOARD, BARCODE SCANNING. Mako List saves data to the device's internal private storage, and does not require access to your public files, photos, or media. The app accesses your clipboard only when you explicitly tap "PASTE" to import a list. The app processes this data instantly on your device and it is never transmitted, and the app does not retain a copy of the clipboard history not monitor it in the background. We use the Google Code Scanner API to provide the Mako Beam feature. This API allows for secure, on-device scanning without requiring Mako LIST to access your device's camera.

4. In-App Billing

For applications that offer optional premium feature upgrades or licenses, billing features are integrated directly into the software core. While the applications themselves do not collect, store, or transmit your credit card numbers, banking details, or billing profiles, Google Play Services and the Apple iStore may compile essential technical transaction diagnostics, receipt tokens, and payment telemetry to process your upgrade securely. All financial data processing is handled entirely by Google Play/Apple iStore in accordance with their own privacy policies. Downloading any application from our portfolio that features optional in-app upgrades constitutes acknowledgment and acceptance of this native, system-level transactional processing.

5. Data Processing

All MAKO apps are designed to use your device's local processing power. No data is sent to third-party servers or cloud API's for analysis, with the exception of optional system-level services which are initiated and controlled by the user.

6. Data Deletion & Control

You can delete your data at any time by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the application. If you have enabled your phone's backup, you can manage or delete those files through your personal phone settings.

7. Children's Privacy

Privacy is a right for all ages. MAKO apps do not use third-party analytics. Since all information remains on the user's local hardware, MAKO is incapable of harvesting data from children or any other demographic.

8. Third-Party Services

No Mako app uses third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. If you choose to enable optional backup features, the Google Android Backup Service or Apple's iCloud Backup is used to store your data securely within your own account. No other third-party services have access to your usage patterns or data.

9. Changes to These Policies

Although we do not intend to change our overall policies, we may adjust our Privacy Policy from time to time, such as to add new applications. Since we do not collect your contact information, we advise you to review this page periodically for any changes.
